SERVICE PROJECTS 2008

Bar Stools & Beach Chairs Service Projects

Blood Drive.
Fore the last two years our blood drive has been the largest blood drive in the Keys put on by the Community Blood Center of South Florida (CBCSF). We collected 75 pints last year and 82 the previous year. Our blood drive will be Thursday, October 30th from 9am to 5pm and Friday, October 31st from 9am to 2pm. Donation appointments will be taken starting after Labor Day. Stay tuned for more information. Make your appointment early and help keep "The Meeting of the Minds" Blood Drive number 1 for the THIRD year in a row!!!
The CBCSF will have the double red cell instruments (ALYX machines) on board the blood mobile this year for anyone wanting to partake in that procedure. We'd like to encourage donors to do that procedure, as that is what hospitals are requesting.
One last great big request, PLEASE do not move the barricades on Seminole in front of the Casa. The space we have blocked off is the amount of space we need for the blood mobile. This is the only place we have to put the blood mobile. If we can't park it then there is no way for the CBCSF to do their job.

Toy Drive.
This is the second year that the Toy Drive will be supported by the Salvation Army of Monroe County, benefiting the children of Monroe County including Key West. Please bring an unwrapped toy (don't forget batteries) or school supplies to donate when you register. Age groups requested are infant-toddler and teenagers. If you're driving down the Keys, stop at Wal-Mart in Homestead or K-Mart in Marathon or Key West to pick up the toys or supplies. Collection boxes will be inside and outside of the registration area.

Wesley House.
Once again we will be collecting cash donations for our friends at Wesley House. Look for the great big baby bottle. Wesley House has been a benefactor and a friend of "The Meeting of the Minds" since the event arrived in Key West. Wesley House provides numerous childcare services to the needy families of the Keys.

I would like to say thank you for "Partying with a Purpose" to everyone who has and will participate in "Bar Stools & Beach Chairs" Service Projects.
